What Is Task Management in Project Management?

Task management is a critical area of the project management process, which facilitate the staff to visually see the path and the interconnection between the tasks. Also, Tasks Management play hand on hand with Risk Management. Normally in the initiation phase of risk assessment we identify those risks associated to a task and its effect.

Step to go by on identifying and logging tasks:

  1. Identifying the tasks to set all milestone acceptance: To accomplish this, we need to break down all project phase and milestone down to its work packages. This will help on a bigger scope to know each characteristic of a task to be done and by whom.

  2. Assigning the tasks to the resources: Once a task is set in stone, we need to allocate a member(s) to complete the task. This will be manageable due to the fact that seeing the overview of all tasks we can tell what has been assigned to and the workload that member has. This come handy when tasks have been identified as Critical.

  3. Monitoring and tracking progress towards completion: This involves identifying potential roadblocks, removing impediments to execution, and making adjustments to the project timeline, as necessary.

How to use it in PMLessonLearned.Com:

Once you have a project added to your portfolio you can add all the tasks from your analysis list into your project task grid. At this point you can add successor and predecessor to each task if needed. But do not let any tasks hanging.

  • Project Home Page:

  • Tasks Menu for list of tasks added:
  • Timeline Display:

Summary:

Having tasks monitored and in control we can analyze if project is in track and all tasks has been completed by their assigned duration of work to be done. This will assist the Project Manager if a task needs to be assisted with another resource or accept any delays. At the end of the day each task should be closely monitored to make sure all acceptance criteria have been met.
